We are wrapping up vacation season and I am the last to go. I don’t have anything special planned for next week. it’s a staycation. I’ll be catching up on chores around my house – yard work, rebuilding my meditation deck, cleaning my house.
And, I’ll be sleeping late a lot. Going to bed early, too. This job that I have is exhausting and exhilarating, heartbreaking and joyful, soul crushing and life affirming, soul-crushing and life-affirming. It’s an emotional roller coaster every day.
I’ll also be spending some time meditating on what the next steps are for the LCM. Our service numbers have doubled since last year and increasing every month. I need to find new ways that will help fund this demand and keep the LCM going forward.
This year, I am projecting that we will be filling over 18,000 individual stomachs as state, local and federal programs are cut back. I’m not worried. I know I live in a very generous community.
When I come back, we jump right into a fundraising season with the Golf Tournament and the Antique Car Show at Smoke Rise. There will be Fall events at our sponsoring churches that benefit the LCM. Then the holidays will be upon us and all the fundraising that involves.
The LCM is 100% privately funded. Most of our donations are under $50. We are truly a community sponsored organization will hundreds of people supporting us. When you put it all together, we do amazing things.
I’m drafting this blog post on my back porch as a thunderstorm is rolling in. That is how this vacation feels to me – the calm before the storm. I’m looking forward to a little rest and then a busy, productive Fall. God has been good to me this year. I’ll be praying he blesses our work in the coming months.
